It is thought that, no matter the task or the journey, it is important to know your WHY. And in terms of exercise and health, research would suggest that if your why is aesthetic only, if your only reason for exercising is to look good, then it's likely to fail 😔
So what is a good reason to exercise, and in particular, what are some good reasons to take up Yoga or Pilates?
Our why can change over time...
When I first started Yoga, over 20 years ago, my WHY was an easier Childbirth, I was pregnant I wanted an easy labour, or at least one that wouldn't kill me. And if you're curious about what kept me at Yoga, despite not having an easy childbirth, you can read more about that here.
Today my WHY is a bit different... As I age my reasons are more to do with maintaining health, mobility and strength💪
And so I was delighted to learn of the recent research on the benefits of exercise. If you're looking for some good reasons to get stated on your movement journey, here's a few of my new favourites...
Yes, it's true. Improving your ability to move well literally gives our brains less to think about and allows it to focus on other important tasks. 🤓
Reduced Muscle Mass affects how we store and release sugar in the bloodstream and this in turn can case many health problems, including Diabetes. More muscle mass improves the regulation of our blood sugars. Added bonus - it generally makes us look and feel better too 💪
And here's a few more...
The list is endless, in fact I recently heard a Doctor say that if he could bottle and prescribe exercise, it would be all doctors number 1 prescription choice, imagine!
But unfortunately, it's not that simple, there is no magic pill, it does involve a little bit of work, but it can be fun, I promise!
Convinced?
If so, join me for a class and experience the benefits for yourself.
