A mat is the only essential item that you'll need for your class.
No fancy equipment is necessary for your class. However, I find that some props are excellent tools for providing support, feedback, resistance and extra load and these things can really enhance your experience during the class and provide great long term benefits.
There are lots of mats available from local sports shops and online retailers. If you'd like to invest a mat that with a lifetime guarantee and get 15% off click here!
Yoga blocks (the foam type that is often used for under your head or hips for support ) = a small couch cushion
Yoga blanket = any blanket or towel
Yoga Brick (a brick shaped support often used for raising the ground to the hands for support in lunges or balance poses) = a thick book or a stack of books
Yoga strap = dressing gown belt or a neck tie
Hand weights = tins of food or water bottles
Resistance band = tights or leggings (that you won't want to wear again)
Ankle weights = a long sock or tights and some cooked rice or dried beans (check out the video below to show you how)
Make your own Ankle Weights - Ankle weights are great for providing extra load and strength gains for the legs. They also make for a wonderful roll up experience (if you happen to be one of those people who legs like to pop up when you do a Pilates roll up you'll love ankle weights). If you don't have a set of ankle weights you can make your own with some household ingredients. It's really simple and super fast check out this video to learn how to make your own ankle weights.
We will also use Magic Circles and Soft Exercise Balls.
Finally, from time to time we stand on the shared equipment and despite the sanitising of the equipment you might prefer not to stand on shared equipment with bare feet, if this is a concern for you I recommend some grippy socks. Grippy socks are socks with sticky bits on the bottom that will provide you with grip on the mat and the equipment and are a safer non slip alternative to regular socks.
If you do want to purchase some equipment there are lots of suppliers that provide delivery, like McSport Ireland, Amazon and Decathlon Ireland.
