Vaccinations & Movement Practices, what have they got in common?

Covid finally hit our house! And to be honest it threw me for a couple of weeks and it surprised me with its ferocity or maybe I was surprised by my bodies responses 🤔 either way I was surprised! It made me think, I wonder what it would have been like if I hadn't had the vaccine? Did I fare better because of it?

We all know the reason we take vaccines, against any illness. We take them to prevent the spread of the illness, to prevent us from getting the illness and/or to prevent us from getting critically ill if we do get the illness, it's a little like an insurance policy.

This is what vaccines and movement practices have in common...

When we do a regular movement practice we are getting a little insurance, insurance that our tissues, muscles, ligaments and bones will become strong enough to deal with whatever movement challenges we might face.

Now before I go any further, I know you might be thinking, that's not why I do my movement practice, I do my movement practice because ________________ (fill in the blank 😊). But regardless of the why, you'll likely be getting that benefit... AND your tissues will be getting stronger and more resilient.

I remember there was a time when I was concerned about my supermarket shopping bags being too heavy. I remember asking the lady who was packing the bags (remember when they used to pack your bags) to distribute the heavy things between the bags because I had a bad back and it was hard to lift them from the trolley to the car if they were too heavy. Thanks to my movement practice, I no longer feel that my shopping bags might injure my back. In fact you're much more likely to see me hauling an overflowing basket around the shop, having popped in for four things and landing at the checkout with a trolley load. Now I'm not necessarily recommending this, a trolley is easier for sure 😁 but thanks to my movement practice it's just not something I have to worry about any more. I have built up resilience in my tissues, they have adapted, they are stronger and as a result they are capable of handling more load and more movement challenges.

Thankfully this is where the comparison between vaccines and movement practices end!

Getting a vaccine, or in the case of Covid - multiple vaccines!, is generally uncomfortable and overall not a very pleasant experience, whereas movement practices can be fun, interesting and socially engaging.

In fact here's what one of our members had to say after last weeks class...

Just wanted to say a big thank you that class was amazing really enjoyed it could deffo feel the lower abs and the thighs. Loved it!

If you want a little insurance for the movement challenges of your life check out my class offerings or get in touch, I'd love to her from you.

Stay well and keep moving.

Best wishes Patricia 💕
