Here's a fascinating little clip of a motion MRI demonstrating how discs bulge with movement.

Watch how the discs bulge in different places and in different directions depending on the movement of the neck.

Could this mean that our body position during MRI could effect the outcome of an MRI result?

We know that compressive, tensile and shear forces are normal forces effecting the spine and the discs in every day movement. These forces are simply created by contraction of muscles. In this little clip we can see how the discs behave during these muscle contractions. The muscles contract, the spine moves and the discs respond to the force of the movements, bulging this way and that and then returning to normal.

It makes those disc bulging MRI results seem a lot less scary I think.
